If you are new to smoking meat, I am sure some of the meat’s cost has been alarming and adding up! I have to say that I am blessed to have an old lady that likes to hunt for deals and markdowns. As you get into the smoking meat habit, you will realize that you buy in bulk when meat goes on sale. This is where a large freezer comes in handy for stockpiling meat!

The type or style of a smoker doesn’t matter! I smoke mainly on a pellet grill but also have a vertical smoker, which has served me well over the years. I like the pellet smoker better on longer smokes as there is less keeping an eye on the smoker during the smoke process.

How To Brine A Pork Shoulder:
Now pork shoulder is no different than any other meat! However, placing the meat in a brine allows the meat to tenderize and adds flavor! I know many think pork shoulder can be a more brutal cut of meat, so the brine is a great way to tenderize the meat for a low and slow smoke.
One of my go-tos brines is my Coca-Cola Brine (see it -> here) always adds flavor, and Coca-Cola really helps to tenderize the meat.
At What Temperature Is Smoked Pork Shoulder Done At?
Pork shoulder roast should be at an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees before serving! You can cook it longer and hotter if you want to.
Some meat smokers prefer to smoke to an internal temperature of 180-190, while others pull at 165 and wrap the meat before serving or pulling the pork roast apart.
Smoked pork has a pink ring to it, often depending on how long it was smoked and the seasonings or rub used.
