Coca Cola Smoked Pork Shoulder Roast Recipe

This Coca-Cola Smoked Pork Shoulder Roast Recipe is a great way to make smoked pork! I have always been a fan of using Coca-Cola on meat. The soda tenderizes the meat but also adds flavor as well. The meat is so tender it’s like it was made in a slow cooker or instant pot not a smoker.

Now brining meat is something I love to do, and I have found it helps to make juicy meat when smoking. Using brine as a baste while smoking can add to the flavor. I used my Coca-Cola Brine recipe to make this and it didn’t disappoint.
Coca Cola Smoked Pork Shoulder Roast Ingredients:
- Pork Shoulder Roast-When this goes on sale, the old lady buys a couple to have in the freezer for smoking. You can make so many different meals out of leftovers you can’t go wrong. Pork butt will also work for this recipe.
- Coca-Cola– Root Beer or Dr Pepper are great sodas to swap out.
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Brown Sugar
- Minced Garlic
- Salt
- Ice– if not stored in the fridge

How To Brine Pork Shoulder:
Find a container with a lid that is large enough to hold your liquid, ice, and meat in.
Pour some of your Coca-Cola into the container, I always start with a couple of cans of coke then add more later.
Mix in your other ingredients except for the chicken and ice; this will bubble up with carbonation.
Mix the Coca-Cola brine mixture well with a whisk.

Add your pork shoulder roast to the brine.
Top with ice or more Coca-Cola if needed.
I let mine brine overnight, with the roast so the Coca-Cola, and salt can tenderize and flavor the meat.
An hour before you are ready to smoke the roast remove it from the brine and set it on a pan.
How To Smoke Coca Cola Smoked Pork Shoulder Roast:
Now, I have learned over the years to cook to temp, not for a set amount of time. I have fallen in love with my Pit Boss Pro 1100 from Lowes, if you don’t have Lowes, Walmart, and Amazon carry other Pit Boss options or Pit Boss website themselves. I love that I can set it at 225 with smoke and run inside and take a shower or prep sides, and it just cooks my meat with a fantastic smoke flavor!
Start your smoker up and get it rolling smoke. I used Pit Boss Grills Mesquite pellets, but you can use any flavor of pellets to smoke your pork shoulder.
Money and time-saving tips from the old lady. If you order pellets online from Walmart and spend $35, they will drop them off at your door for free!! Their everyday price on pit boss pellets is amazing, plus the expert grill brand has a great price. (see them ->here)
Once I got my Pellet Grill rolling smoke, I left it on the smoke setting with a P Setting at P7.
Set your Pork Shoulder on your smoker and allow it to smoke. If you have a smoke setting, just let it roll with that. The roast will slowly increase in temperature by default, but this is also cold smoking because there isn’t active heat.

Use a basting mop to add brush on more Coca-Cola as it cooks. I poured a glass and just kept it near the smoker with the mop.
For more moisture, you can add an open can of Coca-Cola in the smoker as well.
When you are close to wanting to heat, turn the smoker up to 225 degrees.
Use a meat thermometer to check that your pork has cooked to at least 145 degrees.
Remove and serve!!!

How To Store Leftover Pork Shoulder Roast
Store in an air-tight container or bag for up to 4 days in the fridge. Place in refrigerator after it has cooled. You can freeze smoked pork shoulder roast for up to three months in an airtight container or bag.
Storing leftovers properly requires the right tools! My preferred storage method is if the leftovers can be sealed in a food saver. If not, then an air-tight container or Ziploc bag for the fridge is the way I go. The air-tight container and a freezer Ziploc bag are the next best bet for freezing the leftovers. I also use a food scale to measure portions and divide them into serving sizes.

Ingredients
- 10 Pound Pork Shoulder Roast
- 60 Ounces Coca-Cola
- 2 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 4 Tablespoon Minced Garlic
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 4 Tablespoon Salt
- Ice if not stored in the fridge
Instructions
- Find a container with a lid that is large enough to hold your liquid, ice, and meat in.
- Pour Coca Cola into the container. (In this brine I used 6 cans of Coca Cola, I’ve used a whole 2 liter bottles for big batches before)
- Mix in your other ingredients, this will bubble up with carbonation as you add in other ingredients to it.
- Mix the Coca Cola mixture well with a whisk.
- Add in your pork shoulder roast to the brine.
- Top with ice or more Coca Cola if needed.
- I let mine marinate overnight, with the roast being pork and a big cut the Coca Cola and salt to tenderizes the meat
- An hour before you are ready to smoke the roast remove it from the brine and set it on a pan.
- Now one thing I have learned over the years is to cook to temp, not for a set amount of time. I have fallen in love with my Pit Boss Pro 1100 from Lowes, if you don’t have Lowes Walmart and Amazon carry other Pit Boss options or Pit Boss website themselves.

- Use a basting mop to add more of the brine to the roast as it cooks this helps with the moisture of the roast and helps to tenderize it as well. If you don’t have a basting mop for grilling you need one, I use this when we do anything that was brined or marinated.
- For more moisture, you can add an open can of Coca Cola in the smoker as well.
- When you are close to wanting to heat turn the smoker up to 225 degrees.
- Use a meat thermometer to check that your pork has cooked to at least 145 degrees.
