Start your stockpot boiling with water, you will want enough water to cover the hambone.
Now you will have to add water as it boils the bone and other ingredients since some the water will evaporate.
Once your pot is boiling add in your ham bone, Bouillon, Minced Garlic, Bay Leaves, Thyme, Basil, and chopped onion. I used Better Than Bouillon Vegetable Base on my soup.
Allow to boil for about 3 hours, check occasionally to add in more water.
Use a large slotted spoon or tongs to fish out your ham bone from the mixture.
Add to the stockpot diced Carrots, diced Celery, Dried Split Peas, and Diced Ham. Add more water if necessary as well.
Allow to boil for about another hour and serve.
